Proof that the world is streaming more data, users of video sharing website Youtube are now uploading more than 60 hours of video every minute –the same as one hour of video every second, and those videos are now getting more than four billion views a day.

IT decision makers say big data is a growing concern
Linux Foundation research shows respondents also seem to believe that “big data” will become a key concern in future, with 75% of respondents saying they are concerned with Big Data. The survey was based on responses from 428 respondents working within companies with sales of more than US$500m, or with more than 500 employees.
Out of those surveyed, 72% said they would use Linux to support Big Data requirements.
The research also presented figures on cloud computing – 34.9% of responded said they will migrate some applications to cloud-based computing, while 61% of respondents are already using cloud. And 72% of respondents said they expect to have a quarter or more of their servers virtualized by the end of 2012.
ISACA warns of big data challenges
Research by compliance and certification non-profit organization ISACA also points to 2012 trends in big data. The organization said that companies are not only concerned about big data in the business, but with social networks, sensor networks and customer chat sessions.
ISACA President Ken Vander Wal said that 2012 will be the year for big data to come into its own, and as a result will provide IT leaders with new challenges, from management to optimization of ROI and data privacy.
