GoGrid has extended its data center footprint from San Francisco and Ashburn in the US to Europe, with a new data center designed for public and private cloud computing services in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

GoGrid AMS BV will be the company’s European cloud hosting facility, the company said at the Cloud Expo event opening in London today.

It hosts its facilities in Equinix data centers in the US and now Amsterdam, using Equinix’ IBX data center accessing Platform Equinix, which puts customers in contact with other clients peering through the Equinix marketplace with more than 4,000 participants.

CoGrid hosts Linux and Windows virtual machines and lists Rackspace as one of its main competitors. Rackspace started offering cloud services to UK customers last year.

GoGrid CEO Warren Heffelfinger said he expects the cloud market to accelerate in 2012, while GoGrid’s CMO Jeffrey Samuels said much of this growth will come from international markets.

“International markets are currently driving more than 40% of GoGrid’s business,” Samuels said.

“Because EMEA represents significant growth opportunity, our priority has been finding the right location and building the team to successfully launch operations.

“We’ve extend GoGrid’s world-class cloud computing technologies to address the specific customers and infrastructure needs of the broader region.”

GoGrid clients include Orange Business Services and Conde Nast Digital.

Orange uses a GoGrid private cloud to deliver a solution to customers for remote monitoring of communication hardware which provides a real-time view for the customer and Orange.
