Rittal made a number of announcements this week, including a cabinet that can be bolted on to an outside wall to make use of free air cooling.

The cabinet specialist said its latest Modular Safe offering Extend is designed for medium-sized users.

It makes use of horizontal air flow with separate cold and hot sides with cooled air from outside directed in from of the IT system.

“The cooling unit is installed between the side panel of the Modular Safe and the outer wall on the site,” Rittal said.

“The arrangement between the Modular Safe and the outer wall, which optimally supports the cold/hot aisle containment principal in the Modular Safe, increases cooling efficiency.”

Rittal said the solution uses three different modes of cooling, 100% free cooling from outside, air recirculation cooling with a device that comes as part of the cabinet and a mixture of the two.

Rittal also expanded its TopTherm fan range, releasing a 230V AC 900 cubed meter variant.

TopTherm fans also cool using ambient air using a diagonal fan for increased performance, which adds to the efficiency of the solution. Each TopTherm fan hand filter unit uses single-phase AC motors and comes with a speed controller for adjusting the fan accordingly.

“Not only does this device increase maintenance intervals and reduce energy consumption, it also alerts users to potential problems,” Rittal said.

The TopTherm fan and filler units come with 24V DC motors.

And Rittal also upgraded its computer Multi Control monitoring system, launching the third version of the solution.

CMC III is a complete redesign – it has a smaller form factor and has a smaller number of sensors or CAN-bus connecting units and comes with no SD card slot or USB port.

Rittal designed the CMC III with industrial clients in mind. The solution still does the same monitoring, checking for information on temperature, humidity and voltage in the enclosure, it also identifies opportunities where more energy savings can be made.
